I am starting a new design project and am working with a graphic designer for the first time. How would you suggest I communicate my design vision with her?
Congrats on tackling a design project! A good graphic designer will be able to walk you through their process. They will ask you good questions to decipher your preference and vision. They should also help you think through different ideas and work with you to create a successful project.
I do suggest that new clients (and past clients) bring a few examples of design projects that they like (and don’t like) to our first project planning meeting. Be prepared to explain, specifically, what it is you like and don’t like about them.
This is a great way to make sure we are on the same page. Rather than just saying I like something “professional” or “colorful” or “hip”, together we can see and talk through what that really means.
Hopefully this tip will save you time and heartache in the process. Good luck with your project!
**For Your Toolbelt** If you are struggling to find examples, ask your graphic designer to share additional project samples. They will likely have more projects than in their online portfolio to share.
